Today I have two things I want to gripe about specifically I am sure there are others.
The First:
Last night i was watching the news of the arrest down in Tracy in the Cantu case. I watched the news for a couple of hours and no where did they refer to the person arrested as a suspect. Hello, what happened to "presumed innocent until found guilty". The press was treating her like she "did" it not was "suspected" of it. By the slant that was given by the media I think she did but that is for a jury of her peers to determine. How many times have a jury acquitted someone? How often does pre-trial publicity taint a jury pool? OR taint a persons vote even if they make it through the selection process? The defenders of our rights the so called "free press" need to be a little more respectful of a defendants rights before the government makes them a mouthpiece for what they want us to know. Any one ever read "1984" by Orwell?
The Second
In regards to the attempted hijacking of the Maersk Alabama and the kidnapping of Captain Richard Phillips. First the news on CNN is only 3 minutes old so I have to change my tone a bit. Capt. Phillips is now free and the US Navy seals killed 3 terrorists in rescueing him. This is what pisses me off though. Not that the terrorists were killed in a military action but that we were negotiating with them at all. It has been my belief that we do not negotiate with terrorists. But now it looks like were using negotiations to lull the idiots into a false sense of security while one of their members was taken to the USS Bainbridge to negotiate and the other 3 were killed in the rescue. Capt. Phillips was unharmed in his rescue. Here is a link to the CNN story:
