Like Education will Correct the Behavior

Tonight on the news there was a article about some asshole who wrapped a cat in duct tape, put it under a traffic cone and dropped an explosive device under the cone. Now the news as usual did not go into specifics of the alleged device they just said it was a "firecracker". I find this horrendous. Sacramento's law enforcement personnel were able to get a suspect from interviews who is now in county jail charged with felony animal maiming. Anyone else want to volunteer for the use a pipe on the bastard squad with me? I was a hunter and did not have qualms about taking a animals life but this is not hunting it is just sick torture. What pissed me off about his issue was the SPCA person who said that education is the answer.

If someone is inclined to commit these acts than someone in authority telling them it is wrong is just a waste of oxygen and time. No amount of education will stop commission of these heinous crimes. There is a definite link between animal cruelty and serial killing. Dahmer did it just to bring the first one that comes to mind. So I did a quick google search (which I will continue to do because I dislike Microsoft) of "serial killers and animal cruelty" that came up with 132.000 hits. And the first page of hits just reading the summaries looks like it is about 20+ percent of serial killers were practicing animal cruelty before they moved to humans. Any more volunteers for the pipe brigade?

Well we decided that since public High School is a recipe for failure for Stephen. We are looking into alternatives. We have seen ads on TV and on Yahoo for K12.com. I decided to check it out, and since until the paper is signed it is no foul to back out. Turns out that it is a charter school here in California online. That avoids the requirement to have a certified teacher for home schooling. It is all online with them sending you the supplies to use for each class. From the web site it even looks like lab equipment for lab classes. Of course it could be just slick ads for no real content, but we saw how public school worked last year so we are going to explore this option. We have a phone call with questions today (7/29/2009) at 2 PM. We will see how that goes. Stephen went to the website and checked it out and seems to have some reasonable questions to ask. We know we can get no worthwhile accomplishments without his buy in to the program.
The things I like so far about this program is that it is no cost to us the parent. And it is a mastery based advancement program. You cannot go on to the next section until you have mastered the one you are on. What he is not going to like though is when I talked to the admissions adviser on the phone he will probably have to redo his freshman year, of course he didn't get over an F in any class except study hall. He even failed PE which if you show up, dress out, and pretend to participate you get a C, Don't ask me how I know this just believe me. I am sure I will blog what has been said in the days to come.

Are those three words and phrases synonyms? Not always but when used in reference to one another that is my view. Of course I am a humble unassuming mudslinger from the sidelines. I don't even use my real name in these posts. Of course 21 years ago when arrested for a DUI I did give the cops "Ottar" as an alias and the papers read Jamie "Ottar" Allen. So I can be found if the powers that be were frightened of the groundswell of indignation I am causing. Yeah right I get at most one comment on any post. But the psychic masturbation allows me to vent and share with the few interested lurkers out there.
But I digress.
Getting back to the idiots downtown. If we as households handled money in such a way we would end up homeless. Who would trust us with their property to rent if we were that irresponsible.
Our congress critters have come up with a budget that closes a $26 BILLION dollar shortfall without raising taxes. So there are cuts in there and creative accounting that are going to hurt our fellow Californians. Now as you know I am not upset by cuts in the welfare system. Work or starve is OK by me. That may sound hypocritical but when I work a percentage of my check is taken as unemployment INSURANCE. I am now collecting that. I am not happy about that but I am living off of that. I love the people up in Natomas where building has outstripped the fire department's ability to respond who are bitching about response times when they vote down property tax hikes that could pay for the fire department to hire more firefighters. Admiral Bob put if well TANSTAAFL. If you wont pay for it how do you expect to have it? Recreate Circus Maximus?

Well I have homework to do that isn't venting to you the cyber reader.

Whatever happened to doing your job?

Y'all should know about the issue of Stephen and his grades last year. A GPA of .5 for his freshman year in high school. Yes that was POINT FIVE. So he needed to go to summer school. We were unable to get him enrolled in a brick and mortar class so he was supposed to do it online. The operative word there is supposed. Another class, another failure. What has me irked here is that he had a teacher who was supposed to monitor his progress because he had to actually go in and do the testing for his class was a good civil servant. (Why do I picture her sitting primly with her hands folder in her lap?) We received no notification of him failing. From him or his teacher. Do they get rated on the grade average of their students? His teacher not only did not tell us he was failing she did not respond to the emailed questions we had. My idea is to go to the next school board meeting but Stacie is curbing me until we talk to the principal at the school who is on vacation till the first. I will be in on that meeting and I will probably not be liked afterwards.
My question is about what we are now teaching our people today. Our politicians cannot do their jobs but nothing happens to them. Our teachers will not do their jobs and nothing happens to them. Our police can't or won't do their jobs and crime goes rampant yet nothing happens to them unless they pose in Playboy. It snowballs down hill from there. What happens to society when garbage men won't do their jobs? Oh wait didn't that happen when the garbage men went on strike in Sacramento County back in September 2006? Again nothing happened to them.
What happened to a work ethic here in the United States? Has it become a WORTHLESS ETHIC? This is what I see that we are teaching our kids. And we wonder why we went from the fifth largest economy in the world to a fraud of a state as far as the economy goes. Maybe we can start changing the way we train our kids before we collapse as a nation or a species for that matter. I'm afraid it's too late for California. Can you say tipping point?

Honestly he is no danger to himself or others

As many of you have gathered my mind takes off in directions beyond my control. Take last night for example. I drive the speed limit. I usually have my cruise control set to the speed limit on the road I am driving. Boy does that piss people off. I am offered sex an average of 5 times a day, but since it is offered by males i must pass. At least that is what that one fingered salute means as it was explained to me back in the dark ages of my youth. To be a courteous driver I keep an eye open to whats around me. More drivers should try this you see way neat-o things. So I saw Johnny Law pass me and scowl about my speed (I assume) , and that is where my mind took of into another direction.

I was picturing the fun I could have in the courts if he had stopped me.
"Excuse me Officer why do you want my papers?"
"You were not keeping up with the flow of traffic."
"But my speedometer said I was going at the limited posted by the proper authorities. And this being Citrus Heights there is a sign when you enter this jurisdiction that says traffic laws are strictly enforced."
"That is core ct sir but the rules of the road also state that you keep up with the flow of traffic."
"Yes Officer I agree there on that point but the written law states speed limit is 40 MPH in this stretch of road. So what your saying here is that if a bunch of us violate the law it is OK. Those that do not follow the herd will be punished?"
"No sir that rule is for your safety."
"OK wait just a minute here the flow of traffic rule is for my safety even if it violates a speed limit enacted for safety? How does a mere mortal decide which law to break? Which has the lower penalty?"

Of course this didn't happen but oh the fantasies I went on for this one. I would let them charge me and accept the charges. After I paid the fine I would find a petty offence in that jurisdiction that did not harm any one that was committed all the time by others and do it in such a way as to be caught. Then use my conviction as my defense. Following the herd is legal in this jurisdiction. I believe the term is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

I wonder how many times it would take using this defense that a jurisdiction would close the dumb laws or enforce ALL the ones that they have on the books. Of course the slapping sound of jackboots comes to mind when I see them attempting to enforce all the rules. Jails are full lets institute public flogging, thank you Admiral Bob. It has always been my belief that organisms learn to not do something because it hurts. "Don't grab that pan Stephen it is hot," if you were there or heard the story you know how that teenage hairless ape learns.

RANDOM THOUGHTS CAN BUM ME OUT

Today I was going through the waste of bandwidth know as monster (the job board not the energy drink). Exploring the vast wastelands of teases out there when it hit me like a bolt out of the blue. Our current President will probably keep throwing out more extensions to the unemployed sp I can continue to get unemployment checks through his ENTIRE presidency. That is more then half the time I have left before I can start drawing SSI. Then afer having been unemployed for that long and am now in the "get a job as a walmart greeter category" I would not be surprised to see the power(les)s that be making it easier for the long term unemployed to start drawing SSI.

TEENAGE hairless apes do vex me

Two nights ago our oh so bright 14 year old son came home stoned. There are a number of issues that I have here on this. This is not the first time, My issues are that it is illegal, weather I agree or not it is a violation of the law. Made more so by the age of the offender. Then add on the fast that he has admitted to poor judgment when he went out and did shots on the 4^th of July. Not that I care that he kissed a boy but what if one of his other group of friends (male or female) had offered him sex? Would he have the sense too wrap his meat? Judgment and a 14 year old with a chance to get laid any one want to guess who would probably win? And another issue was it was late and he was wearing dark colors and he likes to ride his skateboard. Gee how many times have I almost ran a skate punk over because I could not see him or her in the dark. To be fair people walking, riding bikes. Or just hanging out are responsible for being visible if the do not want to be a statistic.

I am in a catch 22-situation. If we discipline our son like he deserves and as his crime dictates, we gave him 2 weeks grounded to his room unless he is in the bathroom, doing his chores or eating, he is/has already told us a figurative “FUCK YOU” he is not going to abide by his punishment. So when he goes we will get Law Enforcement involved as a run away. They will put him in juvenile detention. (hopefully) when the judge discusses his case with us we will be wrong because he has no discipline. Yet, and I will state this to him “how can we discipline? You have hamstrung us by making discipline that is not followed illegal! If we resort to corporal punishment we go to jail. If a juvenile refuses to follow the rules of his grounding we cannot physically restrain him under the law. Yet we are responsible for his actions. That puts us in a predicament. I believe the term here is Damned if we do and damned if we don’t.”

You know Admiral Bob thought that once a young male became a teenager he should be raised in a barrel and fed through the bunghole (of the barrel you perverts) and when he turned 21 (show how old that was). You would look in the barrel and decide to open it or hammer in a bung plug. Well I now understand that.
